All I Want For Christmas Is A Spoonful Of Sugar

There are few things in this world that make me light up like a verse or two of 'Chim-chim-cheree' or 'A Spoonful of Sugar' does.  Mary Poppins is my all time favorite Disney movie.  Julie Andrews + Dick Van Dyke + songs + carousel horses + kites = what childhood memories are made of.  Mary was the costume of multiple childhood Halloween's.  She was my go-to costume for a trip to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disney World - and let me tell you - there's something about complete strangers wanting their picture with you that makes your costume feel legit.  Can you tell I love me some Mary? (But I'm totally normal, of course).

My first trip to NYC was brought on by a desire - no NEED - to see the Broadway version.  And not just see it.  Sit in the perfect seat stage-left in the lower mezzanine, just below where Mary flies over the audience at the end of the show.  People.  I couldn't hardly stand it.  The only thing that could have made it better was walking out of there with my own umbrella with a bird on the handle.  Oh wait.  I did that - not that it would be considered an impulse buy.  Not at all.  Then imagine me lugging that around NYC and it sticking out of the top of my suitcase.  I just hope a child on that Amtrak trip thought I was secretly the real Mary Poppins.  If only I could clean with a snap of my fingers.  Do parents even show this to their kids these days?  I can't even think about the fact kids might think it's too old school.

But NEWSFLASH!!!  A new movie is coming out December 20th that may just make my Christmas. "Saving Mr. Banks" stars Emma Thompson as P.L. Rivers (author of the Mary Poppins stories) and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney.  I can't find many details on the movie itself other than it will deal with her interaction with Disney in making the movie and holding true to her stories.  Let's talk about full circle.  I. can. not. wait.
