Stitch-Fix #1 Review

I bit the bullet and signed up for my first Stitch-Fix shipment that arrived last week.  In case you haven't heard about it, it's the chance to have a stylist pick clothing & accessories just for you based on the results of a thorough survey (5 items in each box).  I think my favorite part is that you can give them feedback on why things did or didn't work so they can hone in closer to your style with each box.  Basically, you pay $20 (styling fee) to get 5 items delivered in each box and the price of whatever you decide to keep is dropped by that $20.  The rest you send back in a postage-paid bag.  If you decide to keep everything, there's a 20% discount.

StitchFix Review #1

I had hesitated for a long time in signing up because.....I'm not a size 6.  I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to wear any "bottoms" because I would be out of their size range, but I am in serious need of tops.  My whole wardrobe post baby is made up of solid color shirts from Target.  I love me some Target....but overall my wardrobe is lacking any sense of style.  And frankly I was tired of wearing the same boring things over and over.  My closet needs pizazz.  So I marked the largest size on bottoms, gave lots of details on my survey, crossed my fingers, and this is what arrived.....

1) 41Hawthorn Queensland Dolman Jersey Top

Stitch Fix #1 outfit 1

So I know I said everything I seem to be wearing lately is solid colored, but I loved how this fit.  I could wear it longer, but like letting it gather around my hips....a much more forgiving look post baby. (No, I'm not pregnant but that little baby souvenir remains...sigh).  This shirt is super soft and I can see my self dressing it up for a date night, wearing it to work, and even tossing it on before a playdate.   Decision: Kept!

2) Papermoon Maverick Scoop Neck Top

It's a bit hard to tell in the photos, but there are a few horizontal "stripes" of fabric on this top.  It was pretty thin, but overall I liked it but it was just too short.  If it had been an inch longer I'd have kept it, but I knew if I did, it would join racks of other shirts that are just one thing away from 'just right' and would never get worn.  I want to feel good in what I wear, not worry about constantly pulling down my shirt, or my pants up.  Ladies - you know what I mean!  Decision: Sent Back

3) Bay to Baubles Ansley Crosshatch Circle Pendant Necklace

stitchfix1 outfit 3

I have acquired a number of nice jewelry pieces thanks to JCrew being based here in town, so I almost told my stylist not to send jewelry, but I figured I'd wait and see how it goes.  Plus baby girl loves to pull & chew on necklaces and earrings.  This was a nice piece, but I just didn't love it and didn't think it worked great with the item I kept.  So back it went.  Decision: Sent Back

4) Brixon Ivy Ronan Maxi Dress

stitch fix 1 outfit 4

I was so excited when I saw this dress and knew that 100% I was keeping it if it fit no matter the cost (within reason that is).  It was long, flowy, and the detail at the neckline was nice but not super low cut or revealing.  Hallelujah.  But these dang hips.  It was just a bit too tight around my hips to know that again I would be super self-conscious wearing it and that was the opposite of the point of trying on clothes via Stitch Fix.  So with greatest sadness rivaling that of Juliet discovering Romeo's death......Decision: Sent Back

5) Brixon Ivy Bixby Clover Print Blouse

stitchfix1 outfit 5

I loved this print out the box, and it fit great standing still.  But seeing as how I have to pick things up and bend my shoulders on a regular basis, I knew it had to go back.  This was the only print in my box, so I gave my stylist feedback that I'd like to see more prints in round 2! Decision: Sent Back

I only kept one piece from this box, but I've got great hope for the next one!  If at first you don't succeed, try, try again right?

If you want to give it a try you can use my referral code here to get started....and you don't have to get boxes on any certain schedule.  You can do them randomly, on a monthly schedule, or even in advance of a special occasion.

I've had a number of friends say that their 3rd box was when their stylist seemed to hit the nail on the head.  So fingers crossed I signed up for another box at the end of the month.  Stay tuned!
