I want to give you a big ole hug to thank you for reading. I've dreamed of starting a blog for years, but honestly I was just too scared and afraid that no one would care about anything I had to say. And maybe you don't really, but each and every visitor to thehomemadefig helps break down my hidden insecurities. It's like a little bit of the middle school me is still tucked away inside second guessing every move I make (and every outfit I throw on). I can't be the only one who feels that way right? But approaching the big 3-0 this coming week has made me think twice about what's really important. So out with the old and in with the new (attitude that is). In the mailbox today was a newspaper clipping of one of my very first blog posts adapted for The Virginian-Pilot. Before the creation of thehomemadefig, I had almost forgotten how much I love to write. The Virginian-Pilot was my first entrance in the 'real world' of writing. They say you can find anything on the internet, and if you look hard enough, you can find my earliest bylines. There is no shame in Dixie Chicks CD reviews and high school football rivalries....right?
So to see my name in print (first time with the new last name!) again just made my heart smile. No - my ego didn't get a buzz from it. It was seriously the most amazing reminder of the joy I get in being here. In writing. In sharing my thoughts, ideas, and even my failures. So even if this is your first & last visit - know that you are more than a 'statistic'. (And yes I love to watch and see how many people are reading and where they are from...its the nerd in me!). The few moments you spend reading reinforces to me that someone out there is sharing a moment of their life along with me. And know that's why I'm here writing - both for me and for you.
So thank you person from South Africa who somehow found the blog. Thank you Pinterest for helping me promote my crafts and bringing new friends to the blog. Thank you first-timer and twentieth-time visitor. Thank YOU for letting me honest and vulnerable with you. Let's be friends! Now back to the fun stuff - what do you want to see on Monday? A coffee filter wreath how-to or a jewelry wall display.....comment & come back Monday for a post full of DIY craftiness!
